What kind of variety chili you should import?
Based on our years of experience exporting dried chilies to Malaysia, there are three main types of imported chilies in the Malaysian market.
1:YIDU DRIED CHILI
Yidu chili is a low-spiciness chili, mainly produced in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia. It is the mainstream Chinese chili variety in the Malaysian market. Its shape like a ram’s horn, 5-7cm long, dark red in color, and rich in oil. It is mainly to neutralize spiciness and enhance color.
2:HL 13 DRIED CHILI
HL13 DRIED CHILI is a medium-spicy dried chili pepper with a Scoville rating of 13,000-15,000 SHU. It originates from Xinjiang, China. The pepper is long and slender, with a bright color and thick skin. It is mainly used to produce chili powder and chili sauce.
3:XI AN DRIED CHILI
Xi’an chili, originating from Xi’an, China, is a representative Chinese chili pepper, named for its slender, thread-like shape. The pepper is long and thin, with evenly wrinkled skin and a bright red, glossy color. For example, Xingping chili peppers can reach an average length of 12-16 centimeters, earning them the nickname “Seven-Inch Red.” It has a rich, mellow spiciness, characterized by its “spicy but not pungent” flavor. It has a medium spiciness (approximately 5,000-10,000 SHU) and a unique smoky and earthy aroma.
These three types of chili peppers are exported to the Malaysian seasoning market year-round. Among them, Yidu dried chili peppers offer the best value for money, but market competition is fierce, resulting in the largest import volume and the lowest profit margin. Xian dried chili peppers are Sambal’s main ingredient, with high market demand and the highest profit margin.
